Me Being Mom

{September 22, 2009}   Life’s a Beach!

Bethany Beach take two.  Last year we tried to join Erin and Paul in Bethany and I timely came down with the flu.  So needless to say I did not enjoy my trip.  This year was much much better!  :-)

We had a great time on our family vacation to South Haven, Michigan.  It’s located directly on Lake Michigan and was absolutely beautiful.  Some of the highlights from the trip..

So for momma’s day I requested that we take the family out to the disco – Baby Loves Disco.  I had heard about it since JT was a wee one and every time I looked into tickets they were sold out.  So this time we jumped on them.

Our disco took place at the Rock N Roll Hotel on H Street.  It was cool getting to check the place out since I don’t know when else I would get a chance being a momma and all.

They had all kinds of snacks and drinks for the kids.  JT enjoying a juice box and the bar..

{May 8, 2009}   15 Months

15 months is such a great age.  Here are some of my favorite things that JT suddenly started doing this month -

  • Laugh at other kids being silly
  • Stomp in puddles
  • Give kisses
  • Hold hand to go downstairs or wherever else he wants you to go

{April 7, 2009}   JT’s First Haircut

So all you negative nancies out there won.  I caved in and took JT to get his hair cut.  I still argue that his hair wasn’t THAT out of control.  He had a couple of long strands but nothing too crazy.

We decided to take him to Cartoon Cuts since it was his first haircut.  The place is crazy!  Basically the concept is to stick the kid in front of a tv so the stylist can get through the haircut.  Each and every station has it’s own tv.

It was crazy busy but they have a good ‘waiting room’ with lots of toys and chairs for JT to push into innocent by-standers.  And outside there are plenty of restaurants and outdoor tables to sit and eat at while waiting.

JT was a very good boy.  He watched Elmo through his haircut.  I recorded the whole haircut!  Afterwards, we celebrated with some treats from Baskin Robins.  Conveniently located next door.

In the end, I am very happy that we took him in for the cut.  He looks super cute with his short hair.  Next time I’ll just have to remember to print of the $2 coupon from their website to ease the pain from having to fork out $17 for a baby’s haircut.

{March 4, 2009}   Safety First!

So the debate right now is whether to face JT’s carseat forward.  He is now over a year old and is right at 20 lb.  I was actually thinking of adding it to Daddy’s do list for this weekend but now I’m re-thinking.  What’s the hurry?  Sure JT hates his carseat but what kid doesn’t?  And would he end up loving it facing forward?  Doubt it.  The biggest problem we have with him facing backwards is the sun.  I need to go to Target and pick up a good sun shield for the rear window.   Maybe that would do the trick.

Turning your child to face forward too soon

Children have large heads and comparatively weak necks, so in a head-on collision (the most common type of crash) a child’s head can jerk forward suddenly and violently, resulting in spinal injuries. For this reason, keep your child rear-facing position as long as possible.

The “12-months-and-20-pounds” rule that many parents cite when turning their child forward in the car is actually the minimum size and age requirement. If your child can still ride comfortably facing backward at more than 12 months and 20 pounds, leave him that way. Just be sure the seat is designed to hold children of his weight.

Could it get any better than that? Oh yes, add in shots and we’re in heaven. So since JT’s 12 month visit was only a few days before he was scheduled to get his eartubes he got out of his shots that day.  But what that meant is we had to bring him in 2 weeks later for more torture.  Jim and I kept putting off and putting off taking him because of one thing or another and then finally this Wednesday I took him in.  The first thing the doctor asked me was how many kids I had?  When I said one she was shocked!  Apparently first time moms never wait a full week before bringing their children in with ear infections!  To my defense I thought tubes would prevent ear infections but apparently not.  Not only did he have an ear infection but he was wheezing again.  Poor baby.

My friend Mia sent along a link to this video – http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=J-2sz3RNlR0  Hilarious!  Mia doesn’t believe me but JT totally throws tantrums like this.  The only difference is he doesn’t stop when we leave the room.  :-)

I love that little stinker.

{February 18, 2009}   Head Bangin

So when we went to pick-up JT last night at school we got a surprise!  Our first accident report!  Apparently JT was playing with a gate and banged it into his head.  He’s got a huge bump on his forehead to proove.  He cried and then got right back up and started doing it again.  Let the joys of toddlerhood begin.
